California Forever has made its first substantial step toward building a new city on agricultural land in Solano County. Earlier this week, YIMBY spoke with California Forever’s Head of Planning, Gabriel Metcalf, to discuss the facts of their proposal and the Ballot Initiative. The company, a real estate firm established in Silicon Valley in 2017 with financing from several billionaires, hopes to convince the county voters to create a new city with up to 400,000 residents.

Public Review Starts for Vallejo Apartments Proposal

The city of Vallejo has shared plans to adopt the Mitigated Negative Declaration documents for 5180 Sonoma Boulevard in Vallejo, Solano County. The proposal would create over four hundred homes across eleven buildings between the boulevard and Broadway. The public review period is underway from now to November 6th, 2023. A ribbon cutting ceremony held earlier this week marked the grand opening of a supportive housing project at 2118 Sacramento Street in Vallejo. The project proposal includes the construction of modular homes offering 75 units of 100% permanent supportive housing to individuals and families experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. Eden Housing is the project developer, in partnership with James E. Roberts-Obayashi Corp.

Meeting Today for Mariner’s Cove Suburban Project on Vallejo Waterfront

The Vallejo Design Review Board will hold a public study session later today for Mariner’s Cove, a suburban infill development that would crate 175 new single-unit homes around retail and two parks across a vacant 27-acre swath of land in the Northern Waterfront Area. The project will create new housing for the most populous city in Solano County. Callahan Property Company is responsible for the application.
