Construction officially started yesterday morning on the first apartment complex in the ambitious Potrero Power Station masterplan on San Francisco’s formerly industrial waterfront. The first structure to rise will be an affordable workforce housing complex named the Sophie Maxwell Building, with expectations of over seven hundred units to rise with it during the first phase of development. Construction has officially started on 39 affordable homes with a groundbreaking ceremony at 1367 University Avenue in North Berkeley, Alameda County. The project will create housing for formerly homeless individuals, giving access to amenities, on-site services, and close access to the North Berkeley BART Station. San Francisco-based Panoramic Interests is the developer while Building Opportunities for Self Sufficiency will manage the property and leasing.

City Requests $47 Million To Pay Construction Loan for Hotel Diva Conversion

The City’s Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing and the Episcopal Community Services have submitted a request to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for a $47.38 million permanent loan related to the conversion of Hotel Diva at 440 Geary Street into permanent supportive housing. The financing will pay off the construction loan from the San Francisco Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF). Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) with co-applicant Episcopal Community Services (ECS) as owner and service provider.
