For one of the most reluctant cities in the Bay Area, state legislation to allow ADU’s is starting to impact Palo Alto. Recently, demolition permits have been filed for a single-family structure at 3302 Kipling Street in Palo Alto, with plans to construct a new two-story home with an attached ADU in its place.

The existing single-story structure yields 1,600 square feet, with the new building to yield 3,100 square feet with a one-car garage and attached ADU. Kohler Architects is responsible for the design.

The lot is in the center of a sprawling suburban district and a fourteen-minute walk from Mitchell Park. The Middlefield Road, a ten-minute walk away, is the nearest commercial thoroughfare from the address. An estimated completion date is not known, although given the small scale of the project, it is unlikely to take long.
