The Fremont City Planning Commission has successfully approved a housing project proposed at 41829-41975 Osgood Road in Irvington District, Fremont. The project proposal includes the development of affordable housing close to a planned future BART station. The project also requires the demolition of existing houses on the project site.

The project site will combine two adjacent parcels, measuring an area of 1.37 acres. The new apartment complex will offer 112 dwelling units stacked in a five-story edifice above parking level. One dwelling unit is for the on-site building manager, and the rest are a mix of 50 studios, 32 two-bedroom, and 30 three-bedroom units. The apartments will be marketed as affordable housing available for people earning 30% to 80% of the area’s median income. The six-story project will also offer an on-site 72-vehicle parking facility and a courtyard spanning an area of 3,900 square feet for its residents. Ten motorcycle parking spots are planned.
The Fremont City Council sanctioned a $6 million loan to aid the project because it helps the city meet its regional affordable housing goals.
The long-planned station isn’t expected to be ready until 2026. It has $120 million in funds from Alameda County Measure BB, which voters approved in 2014, and $2 million from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s Regional Measure 2.
The estimated construction timeline has not been announced yet.
The project site is located within walking distance of the future Irvington BART station and a quarter-mile of bus stops.
