New renderings have been revealed for a residential project approved at 2580 West Bayshore Road in Midtown, Palo Alto. The project proposal includes the development of 8 apartment building consisting of 48 residential townhomes. Plans call for the demolition of an existing office building on the site.

SDG Architects is managing the design concepts and construction of the residential development. SummerHill Homes applied for a Preliminary Architectural Review of the project.

The project site is a parcel spanning an area of 2.34 acres. The approved project involves demolition of the existing 34,296 square foot office building and construction of 48 three-story residential townhome condominium units in 8 separate buildings. Fifteen percent of the units (7 units) will be offered at below-market rate and will be designated as affordable housing.

The gross floor area proposed is 101,800 square feet. A total of 98 vehicle parking spaces are also offered. The facade height is set to forty-one feet, and a design enhancement exception was requested. New renderings have been released; the project replaces commercial use with residential development, consistent with the type of land use that the council is trying to encourage. And even though the area lacks public transportation options, and the site is next to the freeway, Mayor Pat Burt noted the wealth of biking amenities in the area and the project’s proximity to the city’s new bike bridge over the U.S. Highway 101.

The project site is a prime location, right opposite the Bayshore freeway. Residents can enjoy a lush green view. It is surrounded by Greer Park. The neighborhood is a walk and bike-friendly residential location with many grocery stores and restaurants nearby. The area is well-serviced by MUNI bus lines like C, E, 21, 22, 40, and 281.
