A huge vacant parking lot which once housed the Rockridge Shopping Center is no longer being considered as the prime spot to construct a new Home Depot store at 5100 Broadway in North Oakland. The old shopping center was demolished more than five years ago.

Broadway Rockridge LLC is the property owner.

As previously covered, the project proposal included the construction of a Home Depot store and a four-story parking structure. The proposal was met with opposition from neighborhood groups who preferred housing and retail projects instead.

The project site is a parcel spanning an area of 15.41 acres. The proposal included a recycling program, a garden center, and onsite parking as well. The Home Depot store would have yielded a total built-up area of 101,822 square feet. The site would have also featured a garden center spanning an area of 16,710 square feet. The proposed building was planned to rise to approximately 24 feet in height.

The project also proposed to employ approximately 145 to 175 full and part-time employees during 3 daily shifts. Stay tuned to catch-up on any further developments.

  1. With the other two corners of this intersection holding hundreds of units of new housing, maybe the developers think they could do better than a suburban home depot.

  2. At first I thought… is this a joke? How can a two-story, turn-of-the century home be replaced with a five-story, gigantic apartment building without parking?!? And the design is hideous… it looks like an iceberg carving its way into our quaint neighborhood. What petition can I sign to stop this monstrosity?

  3. Haters want more housing until it’s next door. Hypocrisy! Great location, why not!
