New renderings have been shared for the L-shaped housing infill at 6115 Potrero Avenue in El Cerrito, Contra Costa County. The development would bring 63 new apartments close to BART. Studio KDA is the project architect.
The 65-foot tall structure will yield 63,890 square feet, with 40,560 square feet for housing, 6,220 square feet for commercial retail, and 4,110 square feet for the 23-car garage. The commercial space is expected to create a restaurant, brew bar, and outdoor dining. Additional parking will be included for 93 bicycles, a decision that can promote the area’s public transit network and reduction congestion.
Unit sizes will vary with 25 one-bedrooms, 35 two-bedrooms, and three three-bedroom homes. The developer has opted not to include affordable housing on-site. An in-lieu fee will be paid to the city to fund the construction of affordable housing elsewhere.
Studio KDA is responsible for the design. Illustrations show two distinct styles, with a white and plain grey exterior facing Potrero Avenue and textured vertical-louver panels along the exterior facing San Pablo Avenue. This narrow facade will be capped by an eye-catching covered balcony. Exterior materials include cement plaster, wood-look panels, and Hardie Panel vertical siding.
The El Cerrito Del North is the northernmost of two BART stations in town. El Cerrito Plaza, closer to Albany, is the subject of a redevelopment plan by Holliday Development and Related Companies for the transit agency. The mixed-use plan could create around 800 homes beside a park and a potential new public library.
BKF is the civil engineer, IDA is consulting on structural engineering, and Groundworks Office is responsible for the landscape architecture. The 0.4-acre property is seven minutes from the El Cerrito Del Norte BART Station.

Not loving it (nor hating it) but at least this has something distinctive about it.
Looks great. Build it!
It would be really cool if laser beams were emitted from beneath the giant rooftop structure!
Yet more residences without parking is a bad idea. Dreaming that no one has vehicles, everyone will use BART or a bicycle for everything is not realistic. More vehicles will be parked on residential blocks, prohibiting existing residents from parking near their homes. It has a ripple effect.
