New preliminary plans have been submitted for an eight-story affordable housing complex at 1190 Hillsdale Avenue in San Jose, Santa Clara County. The property is close to another rising senior housing complex and close to the developing Communication Hills. A.C. Martin, a Los Angeles-based architecture firm, is the project applicant.

Once the building is removed, the application aims to create a 186-unit apartment complex with affordable housing and a manager’s unit. A two-level garage will feature a capacity for 94 cars. Further details about the building have yet to be shared. Given that the application is preliminary, it is subject to change.

Demolition will be required for the existing vacant strip mall. George Avalos of the Bay Area News Group has reported the current owners are San Jose residents Anastasios Papapsomas and Argiroula Papapsomas. The application is being assisted by Senate Bill 330 and the State Density Bonus program to increase residential capacity and expedite approval.

The 0.8-acre parcel is located at the corner of Hillsdale Avenue and Newberry Drive. The block is close to the active construction of 3315 Almaden Expressway. Demolition and site clearing for the four-story senior housing complex was underway earlier this year.

  1. Can’t wait to see what downtown Mountain View creates. More density!
