The Danville Planning Commission is scheduled to review plans tonight for the four-story apartment complex at 101-119 Town & Country Drive in the Town & Country shopping center in Danville, Contra Costa County. The project is looking to replace a commercial retail building with two hundred residential units. Blake Griggs Properties is responsible for the application.

Details about the project have remained unchanged since initial plans were filed last August. The roughly 52-foot-tall structure is expected to yield around 348,110 square feet, including 176,310 square feet for housing above a two-story basement garage. Parking will be provided for 432 cars and 100 bicycles. Apartment sizes will vary with 24 studios, 102 one-bedrooms, 59 two-bedrooms, and 15 three-bedrooms.

The application invokes Senate Bill 330 to streamline the approval process, and the State Density Bonus law to increase residential capacity with a 47% density bonus. Of the 200 units, 21 will be deed-restricted as affordable to very low-income households.

LPAS Architecture + Design is responsible for the project design. Facade materials will be included for cement plaster, board and batten siding, metal standing, brick, and stone veneer. MIG and PGADesign are jointly overseeing the landscape architecture. Landscaping improvements will be included along Town & Country Drive, the ground-floor courtyard, and the rooftop deck. The central courtyard will feature seating, an outdoor kitchen, and a pool deck.

The roughly 3.9-acre property is located along Town and Country Drive between Sheri Lane and San Ramon Valley Boulevard. Future residents will be a half mile away from the town’s commercial center, Hartz Avenue. The proposal requires demolition of three two-story retail structures, retaining the existing structure currently occupied by a gym, Fitness 19. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have not yet been established.

  1. All the Danville NIMBYs are very active on Nextdoor about this project. They generally admit that this will pass as the town has to accept due to State legislation + developers have done their homework. It’ll be a great addition to downtown Danville (where I live.) Density is welcomed out here in such a walkable small town.

  2. These Town and Country shopping centers are such 1960s eyesores.

They got rid of the one in Sunnyvale 15 years ago, and rightly built high-density real estate (a lot of which was housing) there.

But the one right across from Stanford persists, on land that should be a 20-story apartment complex. What a waste.
