A top-level tenant has been secured for 100 Stockton Street, the newly redeveloped retail hub by San Francisco’s Union Square. Chotto Matte, an international Peruvian-Japanese Restaurant, will operate from the rooftop terrace by 2022. Morgan Stanley and Blatteis & Schnur are responsible for the development.
The new eatery will span 17,000 square feet, making it the largest restaurant of its kind in the city, according to Blatteis & Schnur. 3,000 square feet will include a terrace overlooking Union Square and the urban skyline.

Chotto Matte offers Nikkei cuisine, a unique blend of Peruvian and Japanese flavors. While it seems an unlikely fusion, both sea-side traditions share a common appreciation for fresh fish and seasonal ingredients.
The new restaurant will be the gravitational pull anchoring the nearly-complete $80 million renovation of 100 Stockton Street, once a windowless limestone-clad Macy’s men’s department store. Chotto Matte is also the first tenant for 100 Stockton. Cushman & Wakefield is reportedly looking to sign with high-end retailers and entertainment and hospitality tenants for the rest of the building.

The 130-foot structure yields 246,800 square feet, with 150,920 square feet dedicated to office use and 91,900 square feet for commercial retail use. Topping the building will be a rooftop restaurant that will attract prospective patrons with views of the area, including a potentially good view of 555 California.

Gensler is responsible for the redesign, most notable for the carved mid-structure terrace. Degenkolb is the construction engineer firm. 100 Stockton is two minutes from Union Square and five minutes from Yerba Buena Gardens by foot. The Powell and Montgomery Street BART Stations are both nearby.
