New plans have been published for the redevelopment of the SRI International Campus at 333 Ravenswood Avenue in San Mateo County’s Menlo Park. The 63.22-acre project, named Parkline, will redevelopment the campus of SRI International. Founded as an extension of Stanford University, the research institute is most well-known for developing Siri. Lane Partners is the developer.

STUDIOS Architecture will be the project architect, with OJB responsible for the landscape architecture and Kier + Wright as the civil engineers.
The redevelopment will include a massive shift in land use. The existing site coverage is primarily paving, with a quarter of the space covered with landscaping. The Parkline proposal will flip that, covering the site with 48% landscaping, 24% paving, and 28% building coverage.

The new residential neighborhood will span 10 acres of the site. The remaining 53.22 acres will be dominated by the commercial offices, research and development facilities, and life science space. However, the entire lot will become more open, with dedicated east-west connections for pedestrians and cyclists.
For the commercial area, construction will include three existing and five new office buildings, two new amenity buildings, and three new parking structures. There will be 1,379,550 square feet of floor area for office use and parking for 2,800 vehicles, including 500 spots with surface parking at full build-out.

The residential development will span three apartment structures and 19 townhomes. Of the 504,060 square feet of residential floor area, 39,550 square feet will be within the townhomes, 110,040 square feet for 85 units in Building 1, 185,060 square feet for 151 units in Building 2, and 169,410 square feet for 145 units in Building 3.
Five hundred twenty-nine trees will be removed, though 795 new trees will be planted, for a total count of 1,641 trees once Lane Partners finishes the project.

The proposal helps pave the way for a more urban fabric in Menlo Park. Residents will be adjacent to the Menlo Park downtown and Caltrain station. Surface parking will be replaced, and new paths will offer increased connectivity with the wider neighborhood, emphasizing supporting cyclists and pedestrians.
SRI International, formerly the Stanford Research Institute, is a research organization founded in 1946 with a diverse history of research, including the military, and now best recognized for launching Siri Inc., which Apple purchased in 2010. The company is based out of Menlo Park, with additional offices in New Jersey, Washington D.C., and Tokyo.

The developers expect approval could come soon, with completion as early as 2025 at a cost expected to be over $1 billion.
