The project application has been filed for a new affordable housing infill at One Hamilton Drive in Mill Valley, Marin County. The plans most recently were subject to a study session with the city’s Planning Commission. The City of Mill Valley is the property owner, and EAH Housing is the project developer and future housing manager.

The 52-foot tall structure will yield around 65,220 square feet, with 39,760 square feet for housing and 21,580 square feet for the 64-car ground-level garage. Unit sizes will vary with 17 one-bedrooms, 16 two-bedrooms, and 12 three-bedrooms. The 44 units will be deed restricted as affordable housing for 55 years, designated for residents earning very-low or low-income households. Adobe Associates is the civil engineer.

Van Meter Williams Pollack is the project architect. The firm writes that One Hamilton’s proposal has been “influenced by the communities’ comments for their fondness of the Community Center.” Facade materials will include board form concrete, perforated metal shading, horizontal siding, and shingle roofing.
Merrill Morris Partners is responsible for landscape architecture. The project will bring open-air amenities for residents and the public. The sidewalk along Hamilton Drive will be shaded with new tree planters, culminating in a larger residential entry lawn furnished with seating and a canopy. The podium-cap amenity deck will include a community room connected to a landscaped courtyard with turf grass and outdoor seating. The balcony faces west towards Mount Tamalpais.

The 1.75-acre property is part of a larger 13.3-acre swath of city-owned land. The site is next to the city’s fire station and police department. Demolition will be required for the existing 38-car surface parking lot and existing trees. Replacement parking will be provided within the Public Safety Building site. Future residents will be across from Hauke Park, the Bayfront Meadow, and the Bayfront Community Gardens.
The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be established.

Great to see this and hope it’s built – but for environmental and public safety reasons fewer car parking spaces would be preferred.
