The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors has approved construction financing for Stone Pine Cove, a proposed manufactured homes development at 880 Stone Pine Road in Half Moon Bay. The county has secured $11.5 million, with completion expected by early 2025. Sacramento-based Capital Program Management is the project coordinator.

The project has been an urgent pursuit of the city and county following the events of late January last year when an aggrieved farmworker killed seven people and injured one at the formerly Mountain Mushroom Farm and Concord Farms. The proposed construction site is next to the former mushroom farm, where the untenable living conditions for farmworkers were highlighted. Of the 47 homes, 19 will be designated for households displaced by the mass shooting.

The development will span a roughly five-acre property with 47 detached homes. Residence sizes will vary with 14 one-bedrooms, 20 two-bedrooms, and 13 three-bedrooms. Parking will be included for 117 cars, with two spaces per unit and additional visitor parking. According to the city, “at least 28 units will be focused on ownership for farmworker households” with assistance from a State-funded grant program.

Santa Cruz-based Bigfoot Homes is the housing manufacturer, and Kikuchi + Kankel Design Group is the landscape architect. The homes will have simple design features, including low-pitch roofs and exterior window shutters. Site amenities will include a recreational lawn, a playground, and a community garden.

The roughly five-acre site is located next to Highway 92, between the US Post Office and Spanish Town Shops.

  1. I never seen a more pathetic presentation, it looks like a trealer park to me, you would think the developer could provide a floor plan or two?

  2. Fantastic to hear about such a housing development but the amount of car parking seems excessive, especially for a location adjacent to Highway 92 with its relatively frequent and reliable public transit service. Is it appropriate for CA state funds to subsidize excessive car parking?

As a state, we’re supposed to be lessening our carbon footprint and not undermining existing (and subsidized) transit service with increased automobile congestion. Such state subsidies therefore seem to be counterproductive as they’ll worsen serious problems in need of solutions.
