Planning approval has been upheld for a seven-story apartment complex at 940 Willow Street in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood. Earlier this week, the San Jose Planning Commission rejected an appeal of the approved Builder’s Remedy-assisted development, which seeks to add 126 apartments near the intersection of Willow Street and Lincoln Avenue. Redco Development is responsible for the application.

The 86-foot-tall structure will yield around 183,750 square feet, including 94,750 square feet for housing, 15,600 square feet of amenities, 56,200 square feet for parking, and 1,800 square feet for retail. Parking will be provided for 135 across the two-story podium garage. Of the 126 units, 26 will be designated as affordable housing. Unit types vary with 52 studios, 50 one-bedrooms, 20 two-bedrooms, and four townhome-style units at street level with three bedrooms.

Studio Current is responsible for the design. As previously outlined, planning documents show the firm has drawn on an eclectic mix of design inspiration, ranging from contemporary Mansard Roof infills and white-painted brick facades to the storefront designs of Pottery Barn and Sweetgreen. The overall massing will be broken up with articulation, an emphasized two-floor podium, and various terraced setbacks to visually reduce its overall scale.

The one-acre property is located on the south side of Willow Street between Curtiss Avenue and Kotenberg Avenue. Future residents will be just three blocks from the retail-lined Lincoln Avenue. Both Diridon Station and Santana Row are around 25 minutes away via different bus lines.

The estimated timeline for groundbreaking has yet to be shared.

Hey why not? It’s light years better than a dying strip mall. And it’s a pretty nice design too, albeit VERY Millennial. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
