Permits have been filed to renovate an existing industrial structure into a performing arts space at 262 7th Street in SoMa, San Francisco. The conversion would add a gallery space and theater, contributing to the SOMA Pilipinas cultural district. The development is led by a partnership with the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center and Kularts.

Pyatok Architects is responsible for the design. The exterior will not be altered, though the interior will see several modifications to the ground floor and mezzanine to accommodate the cultural facilities. The 133-seat theater will include a double-height ceiling both above the seating and the platform. The lobby entrance will include a gallery and an entrance. New space will include a restroom and a meeting room. The second floor will remain dedicated to office use, with some minor interior demolition to clear space for the theater.

The two nonprofit arts organizations will be contributing institutions to the city’s SoMa Pilipinas cultural district. APICC was founded in 1995 to support and present multi-disciplinary arts that reflect Asian Pacific Islander’s unique living experience. Kularts started in 1985, focusing on contemporary and tribal Pilipino arts in the United States.

The 0.18-acre property is located along 7th Street between Folsom Street and Howard Street. The facility is half a block from the Victoria Manalo Draves Park, a block from the Gene Friend Recreation Center, and two blocks from Market Street and the Civic Center BART Station. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have not yet been shared.
