Affordable Housing Opens by Balboa Park BART Station, San Francisco

The project team and city officials gathered last week to celebrate the grand opening of Kapuso at the Upper Yard, a nine-story affordable housing project at 2340 San Jose Avenue in San Francisco’s Outer Mission neighborhood. The project has created 131 low- to moderate-income family homes on public land owned by BART and developed in partnership with Related and the Mission Housing Development Corporation. State Senator Scott Wiener, author of Senate Bill 35, which provided Kapuso a clear path for approval, attended the event.

New plans have been published for the Balboa Reservoir townhomes, an 89-unit component for the project that will create over a thousand homes next to the City College of San Francisco. The development team, led by AvalonBay Communities and BRIDGE Housing, told the SF Business Times they expect to purchase the land by the end of the year. With plans approved two years ago and the property sale likely, the team is eyeing a groundbreaking by 2024.

Construction work has topped out on the Balboa Park Upper Yard affordable housing project at 2340 San Jose Avenue in San Francisco’s Outer Mission. The construction has replaced a surface parking lot and former rail yard across from a BART and Muni station with a 90-foot tall infill with over a hundred affordable housing units. Both the Mission Housing Development Corporation and Related Companies are responsible for the development.

New renderings have been revealed for Blocks C, D, E, and F of the Balboa Reservoir development plan around 11 Frida Kahlo Way in San Francisco. A recent Phase planning application has been filed verifying the composition of phase one in a 17-acre residential project on land controlled by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission at Balboa Reservoir around 11 Frida Khala Way, San Francisco. Phase one will replace surface parking with an expected 628 new residential units divided between six horizontal and vertical blocks, ranging from townhouses to condos and market-rate to affordable housing. Balboa Reservoir is a joint venture between BRIDGE Housing and AvalonBay Communities.
