Groundbreaking for Balboa Park BART Housing in the Outer Mission, San Francisco

Groundbreaking has officially occurred for the nine-story Balboa Park Upper Yard apartment building, a transit-oriented development poised to create new affordable residences in the Outer Mission area of San Francisco. The proposal would produce 131 new homes for the housing-strapped city right next to the Balboa Park BART station. Mission Housing Development Corporation and the Related Companies are responsible for the development.

Public notices will start to circulate for neighbors of the proposed development site at 1817-1823 Alemany Boulevard, located in the Outer Mission neighborhood of San Francisco. New building permits have already been filed for the site and are under review. Alemany Properties LLC, a small corporation run by an Alameda resident, is responsible for developing as a project sponsor.

Recent preliminary project permits show that the development at 4550 Mission Street offers nearly three times the residential capacity as originally planned. Located in Outer Mission, San Francisco, the developers increased their plans from 24 to 69 apartments. The permits credit HOME-SF, a city-wide local density bonus program to encourage affordable housing near transit. The developer is not listed.
