For the last twelve days of 2025, SFYIMBY will continue our tradition of reflecting on the biggest stories we’ve covered each month across the region. Our first major story in March was the proposed new Mansion for the affluent Fisher Family’s property in Presidio Heights. UC Berkeley announced plans to begin construction next year for a new dorm, currently the fifth-tallest building in the city’s busy pipeline. San Francisco officials held a meeting to work with Lendlease on making 30 Van Ness Avenue financially viable. Lastly, the Draft Environmental Impact Report was published for Related’s 41-story office tower at 530 Sansome Street.

For the last twelve days of 2025, SFYIMBY will continue our tradition of reflecting on the biggest stories we’ve covered each month across the region. The year started with planning progress for two potential towers in Downtown Berkeley, as well as approval for a 15-story affordable housing tower in San Francisco’s Chinatown. In the Richmond District, an interesting proposal surfaced to expand a Burger King into a five-story mixed-use building, and further details came out about SJSU’s updated masterplan for its downtown San Jose campus. Lastly, Oakland’s home-grown soccer team announced plans to redevelop Howard Terminal with a stadium, a refreshing departure from the fraught years-long battle about the site between the city and the Athletics Major League Baseball team.

Final Plans Approved for the 1523 Harrison Street Mass-Timber Building by oWOW

After several rounds of proposals, the project at 1523 Harrison Street has settled on a final plan for its size and design. In 2022, project developer Owow originally proposed the Downtown Oakland site as a partner project to the nearby tower at 1510 Webster Street, but the developer has since vacillated on the exact size and scale of the building. However, final plans submitted in October of this year have now been approved by the City of Oakland, clearing the way for the development to move forward.

Formal Application For Billionaire’s Mansion at 3456 Washington Street, San Francisco

Formal permits have been filed for a three-story mansion to rise at 3456 Washington Street in Presidio Heights, San Francisco. The project would replace a 67-year-old home with a bespoke residence and an accessory dwelling unit for the Gap Inc. co-founder and local billionaire, Doris F. Fisher. San Francisco-based Obata Noblin Office is responsible for the design.
