Construction Finishing for 54-Unit Lofton at Portola

Construction is wrapping up for Lofton at Portola, a 54-unit single-family development located in the Portola neighborhood. As highlighted earlier this year by the San Francisco Chronicle, the project is the largest housing development to be finished in the diverse neighborhood in 50 years. Tri Pointe Homes is responsible for the development.

Construction has reshaped a 1.96-acre site formerly occupied by four low-slung daycare buildings and open land. There are six structures with over a hundred thousand square feet of residential capacity and a parking space for each unit. Of the 54 units being built, seven will be deed-restricted as affordable housing.

While Lofton has finished as the largest residential project in the neighborhood in 50 years, L37 Partners is still working on plans for an even bigger project at 770 Woolsey Street. The lot spans 2.2 acres and is currently occupied by abandoned greenhouse structures from the former University Mound Nursery. L37 Partners has proposed to build 62 homes while preserving two of the greenhouse structures, though neighborhood efforts to preserve the lot remain active.

Tri Pointe Homes purchased the property in 2018 for $12 million. Units are now on sale, with units priced between $1.31 million for a two-bedroom of around 1,400 square feet and up to nearly $1.6 million for a three-bedroom home with approximately 1,870 square feet.
