New plans have been submitted to increase the residential capacity of the proposal for 1530-1544 West San Carlos Street in the West San Carlos neighborhood of San Jose, Santa Clara County. The project has increased by over a third from 173 to 237 potential apartments. Urban Villas LLC is listed as the project developer.
The project will create 237 units intended for families and workforce residents. With the previous project, the developer opted not to include affordable housing and instead pay an in-lieu fee that would fund affordable housing elsewhere. It is unclear if the new proposal includes affordable housing.
Unit sizes will vary from studios to two bedrooms. The structure will open 16,980 square feet of commercial space at ground level. Parking will be included for 198 vehicles, and bicycle parking was not specified.
Studio Current is the project architect and applicant. While initial plans included a slick podium-style design, updated illustrations have not been revealed. Urban Villas LLC is a corporation affiliated with a CENTURY 21 Real Estate Alliance agent, Viji Mani.
A date for groundbreaking has not yet been established. With the previous plan, construction was expected to last around four years between two phases. Demolition will be required for the existing properties, which include several commercial structures and eight vacant single-unit structures across 1.34 acres.
