A new residential project has been proposed for development at 3980 El Camino Real in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County. The project proposal includes replacement housing for residents of the city’s only mobile home park as part of the 105 potential dwelling units.

Santa Clara County Housing Authority is the project developer. Van Meter Williams Pollack is the design architect, and Plural Studio is the landscape architect

The project site is a parcel spanning an area of 4.5 acres. The scope of work includes the redevelopment of the Buena Vista Village Mobile Home Park into two parcels, featuring a new 100% Affordable Housing Development. The first parcel will include a 61-unit multi-family apartment building. The second parcel will offer a 44-unit, occupant-owned mobile home park. The mobile homes will include park-model RVs and Manufactured Housing.

The redevelopment plan also includes replacing all units, replacing all utilities, and converting to 100% electric. The park will be redeveloped as a hybrid model that includes both coaches and a multi-family apartment building, including new site amenities and landscaping.

As reported previously, out of the 61 rental apartments, there will be seven junior one-bedrooms, 20 one-bedrooms, 18 two-bedrooms, and 16 three-bedrooms. One of the two-bedroom units will be a market-rate unit for an on-site property manager, while the remaining units will all be affordable to households earning less than 80% of the area’s median income.

The proposed 61-unit development is subject to the City’s review. Redevelopment of the mobile home parcel is subject to HCD Review. A project review meeting requesting an SB330 has been scheduled for May 2 at 8:30 am, details of joining can be found here.

The project site is located in the Barron Park neighborhood of Palo Alto. Residents will be located along the vehicular and retail thoroughfare equidistant between Caltrain’s California Avenue Station and Mountain View’s San Antonio Station.

The estimated cost and timeline for construction have yet to be established.

  1. Gentrifying a mobile home in the name of affordable housing, great job guys! The trees are supposed to be taller than the buildings in Palo Alto, but you don’t care about that, do you? Just money in the developer’s pockets, that’s all that matters to you
