Here’s a great model for the South Bay for these huge retail+parking lots:

    – Demolish everything
    – Ground/First Floor is retail and parking for that retail in a garage.
    – Second floor is a parking garage for residents.
    – 3rd-7th floor is residential, including a healthy mix of family-sized, 2,000 square foot units.

  2. It’s sad that even these dense developments will be consigned to car dependency.

Hopefully South Bay will eventually realize they picked the wrong transit modality and start building proper public transit.

At least increasing density is a step in the right direction.

I wish you were right, but the South Bay has a long, LONG way before public transit is viable. Heck, in San Francisco itself, the second densest city in the US, it still makes sense to drive a car for the majority of trips because public transit is not there.
