City Council Supports Affordable Housing Development at El Cerrito BART Station

The El Cerrito City Council has started to support the next phase of affordable housing as part of the El Cerrito BART Station redevelopment in Contra Costa County. With construction expected to begin later this year on the first phase, the council provided a $350,000 loan while city staff apply for over $40 million in state funding for the next portion of below-market-rate units. Holliday Development, Satellite Affordable Housing Associates, and Related California are jointly responsible for the 743-unit master plan on behalf of the property owner, BART.

El Cerrito Plaza TOD Received $39 Million in State Funding

The City of El Cerrito and project developer Related California have been awarded $39.1 million in state funding for the El Cerrito Plaza Transit-Oriented Development in Contra Costa County. The financing will allow the team to start construction on the first affordable housing building in phase one, which is expected to start next year.

The project proposal also includes the restoration and relocation of the existing historic structure on site and converting it to a community serving use. The development will replace a single-story commercial structure on a narrow parcel with 63 homes above retail, with groundbreaking expected as early as this year. Potrero Partners LLC, led by Coldwell Banker realtor Kim Marienthal, is listed as the project sponsor.

New renderings have been published along with greater detail about the proposed mixed-use El Cerrito Plaza in Contra Costa County. The project could create as many as 800 homes, a park, and a potential new library on top of surface parking around the El Cerrito BART Station. Illustrations Revealed Ahead of Meeting for BART’s El Cerrito Plaza Proposal

New illustrations have been revealed for BART’s proposed redevelopment of El Cerrito Plaza in El Cerrito, Contra Costa County. The images were released ahead of the El Cerrito city council meeting tonight at 7 PM. The transit-oriented project would create 750-800 new apartments ranging from market rate to low-income housing. Holliday Development, Related California, and SAHA are responsible for the development.

BART has announced that they have picked two developers to form a joint venture for 780 new residences around the El Cerrito Plaza BART Station, with 49% units as affordable, and a public library. Related California and Holliday Development were chosen. The joint venture now must negotiate the terms of agreement with BART to start the two-to-three-year process of producing a development concept.

Permits Filed for Mixed-use Building at 401 Colusa Avenue, El Cerrito, Contra Costa County

Permits have been filed for a new mixed-use structure at 401 Colusa Avenue in El Cerrito, Contra Costa County. The development will yield 4,739 square feet total, with 3,934 square feet for a single-family home. The remaining 804 square feet is office space.
