General Plan Referral Filed for 530 Sansome Street, Financial District, San Francisco

The General Plan Referral has been filed for The Related Companies mixed-use tower at 530 Sansome Street, a requirement ahead of a Board of Supervisors’ vote to approve. The proposal would replace Fire Station 13 in San Francisco’s Financial District. Two distinct project variants are being considered for the rest of the tower, to build either a 200-guestroom Equinox hotel with a gym and offices or 256 apartments. The development is a public-private partnership with Related, the San Francisco Bureau of Real Estate, and the San Francisco Fire Department.

101 California Street is tied with two other buildings as the 13th tallest skyscraper in the Bay Area planned or built. The 600-foot office building was complete in the Financial District in 1982 as the third tallest building in the San Francisco skyline. Its round and glassy exterior with a geometric atrium base is an iconic design by the influential architects, Philip Johnson and John Burgee. Hines and the Singaporean Sovereign Wealth Fund are joint property owners.

Number 18: Four Embarcadero Center, Financial District, San Francisco

The 18th tallest building in the Bay Area planned or built is Four Embarcadero Center, an iconic waterfront landmark in the San Francisco skyline. It is also the tallest of the Embarcadero Center mega-development in the Financial District and the tallest waterfront building in the region. The 570-foot tall tower rises just two feet higher than One Embarcadero Center. As with the rest of the complex, John Portman & Associates were the architects.

Number 19: One Embarcadero Center, Financial District, San Francisco

The 19th tallest skyscraper in the Bay Area planned or built is One Embarcadero Center. One Embarcadero Center is the western-most of four look-a-like office buildings that have been a defining feature of San Francisco’s Financial District skyline since it was first erected in 1971. The mixed-use Embarcadero Center project was submitted to the city by David Rockefeller, John Portman, and Trammel-Crow.
