Plans for the nine-story Warfield Building are shifting from residential to cultural conversion at 988 Market Street in San Francisco’s Mid-Market neighborhood. Community Arts Stabilization Trust and KALW Public Media have made a joint announcement sharing plans to turn the historic building into a hub for arts and journalism dubbed Warfield Commons. Group I had previously pursued a conversion of the Warfield Group into housing.
New plans have surfaced for the potential skyline-defining development at 10 South Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco’s Mid-Market neighborhood. If built today, the 65-story project would become the fifth-tallest skyscraper in the city, with nearly a thousand apartments. Florida-based Crescent Heights is the project developer.
The city has submitted plans to purchase and convert a seven-story vacant office building at 1019 Market Street into a Mental Health Services Center in San Francisco’s Mid-Market neighborhood. The historic 1909-built Eastern Outfitting Build most recently had Zendesk’s headquarters for eight years until its departure in 2021. The new center will provide services for unhoused and uninsured people.
IKEA is opening its new store today in San Francisco. The famous Swedish store is launching its third Bay Area location, two decades after its East Palo Alto location, with a new approach for urban shoppers. The city model integrates delivery services for larger products, a deli, and future plans for the Hej!Workshop.
Ingka Centres has filed updated plans for the future home to IKEA at 945 Market Street in SoMa, San Francisco. The project will provide a major tenant and new life to the mall under the Ingka Center’s Livat branding for their new urban shops. Gensler, the original architect, will be responsible for recladding and upgrades to the interior and exterior.
