The entitlement application is under review to replace a two-story office building with a nearly identically-sized project at 901 South California Avenue in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County. The property is within the Stanford Research Park, across from the College Terraces neighborhood. Alexandria Real Estate Equities is responsible for the application.
Demolition will be required for the existing single-story building. The current structure contains around 55,580 square feet for laboratory and office uses. The new building will rise 35 feet high to yield 58,020 square feet. As per city code, parking will be included for 185 cars across a rear-lot surface parking lot. Additional parking will be included for twenty bicycles.
RMW Architecture is responsible for the design. Facade materials will include terracotta cladding, metal panels, and glazing. Window frames will add some aesthetic flair to the otherwise function-focused project.
Andrea Cochran Landscape Architects will be responsible for designing the open space to create an attractive environment for future employees in the building to socialize, gather, and relax.
The property owner is listed as the Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University, the official name for Stanford University. Stanford retains a real estate portfolio worth at least $20 billion. Along with the Research Park around 901 South California, Stanford owns land around the campus developed with single-family homes, apartments, and the Stanford Shopping Center.
