City Officials gathered yesterday for the official groundbreaking ceremony at 1360 43rd Avenue in San Francisco’s Sunset District. The project, two decades since first proposed, will reshape a 1.37-acre parcel with 135 new homes. MidPen Housing is the project developer working for SFUSD and the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development.
The project is being built on land owned by the San Francisco Unified School District, or SFUSD. Prospective residents are described as individuals or families with SFUSD teachers, paraeducators, and district employees.
Financing was closed in mid-August, setting up construction to start on August 24th.
The 55-foot tall structure will yield 165,860 square feet with 142,460 square feet for housing, 1,750 square feet for public amenities, and 21,650 square feet for the 50-car garage. Parking will also be included for 68 bicycles. Unit sizes will vary, with 24 studios, 43 one-bedrooms, 59 two-bedrooms, and nine three-bedrooms.
BAR Architects will be responsible for the architect in collaboration with G7A. The exterior will be clad with fiber cement siding installed horizontally and vertically, plaster, and wood siding. The design articulates the expansive facade to break up the scale visually and reference the surrounding architectural vernacular.
Fletcher Studio will be responsible for the landscape architecture. This will include a publicly accessible space along 43rd Avenue, a central residential courtyard, and a podium-capping deck.
KPFF is the structural engineer, and Cahill Contractors will be the general contractor. Cahill will provide monthly newsletter updates for those interested. With construction starting in late August, the building is expected to finish in two years by Fall 2024.

I really love this project as it is right off the N Muni Metro line and is optimizing space on a lot while still retaining it’s use.
Great for more housing in public transit avaible area. Why waste money and space for unnecessary car parking?
Is this only for educators? I am a RN looking for affordable housing in San Francisco. Can I be considered? Please email me back. Thank you.
