New building permits have been filed for three structures within the UCSF Laurel Heights campus redevelopment around 3333 California Street in the Laurel Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. The filings would contribute 200 dwelling units to the 744-unit master plan. Prado Group and SKS Partners are responsible for the development.

The recent permits have been requested for the construction of the two Center Buildings and 518 Walnut Street, totaling 200 units. Center Building A will produce 64 residential units across a five-story structure. Center Building B will produce 92 units within an eight-story apartment complex with two basement levels. Lastly, the proposal for 518 Walnut Street will include 64 units across a five-story structure with three basement levels.
Urban planning was designed by James Corner Field Operations, with architecture by BAR Architects & Interiors, Handel Architects, Jensen Architects, and Solomon Cordwell Buenz. BKF Engineer will lead the civil engineering. Handel Architects will be responsible for Plaza Building B, Center Building A, and the Walnut Building.
Construction is expected to cost around $196 million, according to the building permits, a figure not inclusive of all development costs.

Gorgeous….. should be taller thoguh.
With all of the other development taking advantage of the dense building laws, this is a missed opportunity. It would be better even if they only added two or three more floors to the designs.
Freedom West McAllister/Laguna area has about the same acreage & will have ~2300 homes. Even the burbs are building higher density than this site. Not sure how Planning has allowed such a low density use of prime land.
SF Planning Dept. needs to deny this permit ASAP – and require more density and height. This area is too prime to have Walnut Creek level density. THIS IS AN ICONIC AMERICAN CITY. why do we tolerate garbage proposals to add four story apartment buildings. TAMPA FLORIDA HAS BIGGER BUILDINGS WITH MORE DENSITY. where is OUR PRIDE?!
Agreed. It’s an ideal opportunity for more apartments. It’s a prime location and adjacent to the several public transport main arteries. It’s going to be a boost to local shops, local schools, and the local economy generally. It ticks all the boxes. More please.
Years ago, neighbors killed UCSF’s plan to build housing here–claiming they were already contending with too much traffic. Will such a modest proposal even be noticed?
This site used to be the headquarters for Fireman’s Fund insurance before they moved to San Rafael.
Before that it was part of the Laurel Hill cemetary. I wonder if they are going to find any remains when digging…
