Art Gensler, the founder and namesake for the global architecture firm, passed away in Marin County on May 10th, 2021, at age 85. The San Francisco-based architect founded Gensler with his wife Drue Gensler and their associate, James Follett, in 1965. New Renderings Revealed Ahead of Planning Commission Meeting for 415 20th Street, Downtown Oakland

The Oakland Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on plans for 415 20th Street in Downtown Oakland, a 38-story office building poised to be the largest building in the Bay Area outside of San Francisco. City Staff has recommended the commission give approval, subject to conditions, in tomorrow’s 3 PM meeting. The decision will be appealable to the city council. Hines is responsible for the 622-foot proposal.

Downsized Permits Filed for 1330 N Street, Downtown Sacramento

Planning permits have been filed for an eight-story mixed-use building to rise at 1330 N Street overlooking the California State Capitol Park in Downtown Sacramento. The project is a revision to earlier and larger plans for the site designed by HKS. The most recent proposal calls for about half the residential units, with a sleek design by the internationally acclaimed Kohn Pedersen Fox.

Concrete Starts Rising on Treasure Island in Largest Residential Development in the Region

While sales for housing on Yerba Buena Island are underway, the first sign of concrete is finally visible on Treasure Island. The first of many buildings to come is rising at parcel C3.2, a 100% affordable housing development called the Maceo May Apartments. Its 105 units are a fraction of the largest master plan for residential construction in the Bay Area. The approximately 8,000-unit plan for the two islands is being developed by Treasure Island Community Development (TICD), a partnership with Stockbridge Capital Group, Wilson Meany, and Lennar Corporation.

Laurel Ranch is a single-family home development featuring country-style living spaces. The project proposal includes adding twelve single-family houses on the ranch property.
