The proposal will create 75 apartments along with retail and parking. Once built, it will become a neighborhood hub for the project sponsor, the Fruitvale-based Unity Council.
Permits have been approved for the permanent supportive affordable housing proposal for 7994 MacArthur Boulevard in Eastmont, Oakland. The project will replace a single-story commercial structure with 40 new homes and parking in a five-story structure.

The project proposal includes the construction of a four-story building offering residential units for seniors. The project site previously housed Friendship Christian Center. Geral Agee Ministries and the Friendship Community Development Corporation are listed as the property owners. Kodama Diseno Architects is responsible for the designs. Tanaka Design Group is the landscape architect.

Oakland & the World Enterprises is the project sponsor, led by OAW’s CEO and former Black Panther Party chairwoman, Elaine Brown. MWA Architects is responsible for the design.
YIMBY has visited the rising neighborhood at Brooklyn Basin, positioned along Oakland’s Embarcadero waterfront. The update shows construction has topped out at Parcel J, and concrete is now rising for Parcel A Phase Two. As of now, there are 1,696 apartments complete or under construction out of an expected total of 3,700 units.
