Avenues: World School is best known as the school where each student will get a MacBook and an iPad. Since it started in New York City in 2012 with admission fees for K-12 rivaling college, it has expanded to Brazil and Shenzhen. October started with a controversial story we broke about developing the only commercial retail with housing on Bay Farm Island, Alameda. We then covered ribbon cutting events for affordable housing projects in Civic Center, Mission Bay, Potrero Hill, and West Oakland. In Berkeley, we documented demolition progress at 2140 University Avenue and 2300 Ellsworth Street, and lastly, plans for a new office tower in San Francisco were approved.

For the last twelve days of 2025, SFYIMBY will reflect on the biggest stories we’ve covered each month across the region. August of this year started with news that the Eames Institute would take over the former Birkenstock Campus in Novato, with Herzog & de Meuron overseeing the adaptive reuse. In Berkeley, the Adeline Alliance Team was selected to oversee the redevelopment of the Ashby BART Station. We also covered construction progress across the region, including two groundbreaking events in San Francisco, rising housing in Jack London Square, and demolition progress for CityView Plaza in Downtown San Jose.

For the last twelve days of 2025, SFYIMBY will continue our tradition of reflecting on the biggest stories we’ve covered each month across the region. Our first major story in March was the proposed new Mansion for the affluent Fisher Family’s property in Presidio Heights. UC Berkeley announced plans to begin construction next year for a new dorm, currently the fifth-tallest building in the city’s busy pipeline. San Francisco officials held a meeting to work with Lendlease on making 30 Van Ness Avenue financially viable. Lastly, the Draft Environmental Impact Report was published for Related’s 41-story office tower at 530 Sansome Street.

SFYIMBY Year in Review: February 2025

For the last twelve days of 2025, SFYIMBY will continue our tradition of reflecting on the biggest stories we’ve covered each month across the region. February began with an increase in height for the California Theater tower in Downtown Berkeley. In San Francisco, preliminary permits were filed for the 22-story iteration of 2700 Sloat Boulevard, and formal permits were filed for a 23-story residential tower at 1965 Market Street. Further down the Peninsula, the Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo revealed a potential 1,400-unit redevelopment, and a 30-story senior housing tower in Redwood City was put on hold. Lastly, we toured the construction progress on Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island.
