Number 42: 100 First Plaza, SoMa, San Francisco

Standing at the Salesforce Tower’s foot, 100 First Plaza is not among the city’s most recognizable structures. By comparison, it almost appears short. Yet, with a pinnacle 447 feet above street level, it is the 42nd tallest building in the Bay Area built or planned. The tower, located at 100 First Street in SoMa, opened in 1988 with a postmodernist design from the office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

New Building Permits Filed for 98 Franklin Street, Civic Center, San Francisco

New building permits have been filed for a 37-story mixed-use tower at 98 Franklin Street in the Civic Center neighborhood of San Francisco. The city’s Planning Department approved the development in May of 2020, allowing for construction on top of surface parking at the corner of Oak and Franklin with a small parcel of land, allowing construction to extend to Market Street. Related Companies is responsible for the development.

Renderings Revealed for 45-53 Third Street, SoMa, San Francisco

Development plans are currently under review for a modern mixed-use skyscraper at 45-53 Third Street in SoMa, San Francisco. Recently uncovered renderings show in greater detail than previously reported the sculptural design by SOM. Overlooking the Yerba Buena gardens, the project will provide affordable and market-rate housing, luxury hotel space, offices, retail, public area, and an art market, all in one 600-foot structure. The development is being co-sponsored by the Hearst family and JMA Ventures.
