New renderings have been revealed for the 17-story mixed-use tower expected to rise from the California Theater at 2115 Kittredge Street in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. The updated plan shows how the historic facade will be preserved with a new theater for live performances capped by 218 apartments. Gilbane Development is responsible for the project.
Zoning permits have been filed to demolish five properties ahead of construction for the 28-story residential tower at 1974-1998 Shattuck Avenue in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. The addresses include 1950, 1974, 1984, 1998 Shattuck Avenue, and 2071 University Avenue. The property, extending along Shattuck from University Avenue to Berkeley Way, is set to become the tallest tower in Berkeley, rising 317 feet tall, higher than the UC Berkeley Campanile Tower. NX Ventures is the project developer.

The 28-story project is now two floors higher, 40 feet taller, covers two additional parcels, and, most significantly, residential capacity has doubled to 599 apartments. Funding has been secured for a new eight-story student housing project at 2538 Durant Avenue in Southside, Berkeley. ACRES Capital, a national real estate lender, is providing the $10.5 million loan. Valiance Capital is the project developer.
