Late last month, YIMBY was invited to tour Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island in San Francisco. Construction is pushing ahead on the first of several phases that will transform the two islands into a mixed-use neighborhood with roughly eight thousand apartments, retail, and public parks, and among the latest buildings to open includes the 22-story Isle House designed by David Baker Architects.
Construction work is progressing for the two affordable housing projects rising on Transbay Block 2 in East Cut, San Francisco. The update comes just five months after the groundbreaking for both projects, led by separate developers. Concrete is already rising for the senior housing complex, with the foundation already dug for the family housing. Once complete, the site will provide 335 new homes.
Concrete has topped out for the seven-story affordable apartment complex at 78 Haight Street in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood. Construction restarted in the spring of this year after work was stalled in 2022 after a neighboring property owner complained about construction compromising their structure’s foundation. Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation is the project developer.
Phase one of construction has topped out for Phoenix in West Oakland, Alameda County. Crews are currently working on a four-story supportive housing project with a hundred affordable apartments overlooking Interstate 880. Allied Housing and East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation are jointly developing the project.
Alongside the Tuesday ribbon cutting atop Verde, my recent site visit to Mission Rock gave me an opportunity to document the completion of phase one of the ambitious master plan along the San Francisco waterfront. Construction has replaced about half of the 28-acre surface parking lot with over five hundred homes, more than half a million square feet of commercial real estate, new internal streets, shops, and a public park across from Oracle Park. The project has been a joint venture with Tishman Speyer and the San Francisco Giants.
