Construction has officially started for a new senior housing community at 2125 Telegraph Avenue in Uptown, Oakland. The eight-story project, named The Eliza, will bring nearly 100 apartments for residents aged 62 and older to a corner lot near the 19th Street BART Station. Mercy Housing California is the project developer.
The former McRoskey Mattress Company building has been torn down at 1687 Market Street in San Francisco. The century-old structure has been demolished ahead of the construction of a 17-story affordable housing tower and artist community hub. Mercy Housing is responsible for the application on behalf of the Artists Hub on Market.
Significant construction is now underway at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Campus in Oakland. The award-winning pediatric institution has been undergoing a series of recent modernization projects aimed at expanding and improving care for the region. In 2022, SF YIMBY reported on the proposal of a new administrative support building on the site. Construction for that project is now underway, with completion expected later this year. Meanwhile, plans for a new main hospital building were approved in 2024, with preparatory construction beginning in the following months. Major construction on the hospital building is expected to start this year as well. UCSF BCH and UCSF are self-sponsoring the projects.
Crews are making progress on the six-story residential development at 2902 Adeline Street in South Berkeley, Alameda County. The concrete podium has been completed, and wood-frame construction has begun to rise for the future 54-unit project. Realtex Group is the project applicant and owner.
Significant construction progress has been made for the nine-story affordable housing project at 160 Freelon Street in SoMa, San Francisco. Concrete has surpassed the halfway point, with completion expected by mid-2027 for the 86-unit complex. Related Companies and the San Francisco Housing Development Corp are sponsoring the development. Construction is being led by a joint venture with Cahill Contractors and Guzman Construction Group.
