Number 9: One Rincon Hill at 425 1st Street, SoMa, San Francisco

The ninth tallest tower in the Bay Area planned or built is One Rincon Hill, one of the tallest fully residential buildings west of the Mississippi River. Finished in 2008, the 641-foot tower led the procession of construction that now defines Rincon Hill and the southern portion of San Francisco’s SoMa skyline overlooking the Bay Bridge. Solomon Cordwell Buenz is the project architect.

2233 Calle Del Mundo Tops Out, Demolition Complete For Two Buildings in Tasman East, Santa Clara

New aerial imagery shows construction has topped out for the first residential structure in the Tasman East Specific Plan, Santa Clara. Demolition has also finished on two more substantial sites. Tasman East is a multi-developer multi-structure mixed-use masterplan with plans to build as many as 4,500 new residential units with newly-laid streets, over a hundred thousand square feet of retail, a grocery store, school, open space, and affordable housing.

New photographs show that portions of the now-closed Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club have been demolished as part of the Related Santa Clara masterplan. Related Santa Clara is an $8 billion proposal to dramatically redevelop the former golf course with new offices, housing, shops, hotels, a 30-acre public park, and more. Excavation work is underway; that is the headlining story from a recent site visit to the 40.5-acre construction site of Google Caribbean in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County. Two Ziggurat-like office buildings will soon rise with design by Bjarke Ingels Group, an internationally renowned architecture firm founded in Denmark. Google has tapped Sares Regis as development manager.

Crews Spotted, Developer Considers Active Construction for Platform 16 near Diridon Station, San Jose

Douglas Linde, president of Boston Properties, BXP, announced yesterday on a phone call that the firm is actively considering resuming the construction of Platform 16 in 2022, an office development at 441 West Julian Street, San Jose. The announcement came just as SFYIMBY spotted crew activity on the construction site that has been stalled since March of 2020. Platform 16 is a joint development with BXP, TMG Partners, and Valley Oak Partners. BXP maintains a 55% ownership of the project.
