The project is located at 181 East Santa Clara Street in Downtown San Jose, directly across from the Meier & Partners-designed City Hall tower. 50 California Street is tied as the 34th-tallest building in the Bay Area planned or built. The 1972-built tower in San Francisco’s Financial District shares the same height as 555 Mission Street, 487 feet above street level. Originally known as the Union Bank Building, its distinctively ubiquitous modernist design from the Welton Becket architecture firm was part of a larger moment in the city’s development history of rapid economic growth and local anxieties about the ‘Manhattanization’ of the West Coast metropolis.

The downtown project was built between 2006 and 2008 to become the tallest commercial project in the Bay Area in the 2000s. Tishman Speyer was the project developer.
The St. Regis Museum Tower rises 484 feet over Yerba Buena Gardens to be the 36th tallest tower in the Bay Area planned or built. The mixed-use building has added 260 hotel rooms and 102 residential units to the San Francisco housing market in SoMa, along with the Museum for the African Diaspora. Skidmore Owings & Merrill is responsible for the design.
