The City of San Jose has approved plans for a new seven-story affordable housing development at 143 South Third Street in the downtown neighborhood. The project will convert an existing surface-level parking lot into 168 units of new housing, to be made accessible to low-income and very low-income residents. Sobrato Organization and Pacific Companies are responsible for the site’s development.
Building permits have been issued for the six-story affordable housing infill at 1470 5th Street near the West Oakland BART Station in Alameda County. The proposal will replace surface parking with 240 apartments, with work expected to start as early as next Monday, September 14th. Keystone Development Group is responsible for the application on behalf of the joint venture, Mandela Station Affordable LP.
Construction is underway now at 156 Shoreline Highway in unincorporated Mill Valley, Marin County. Crews have begun assembling prefabricated sections for the five-story affordable housing complex near the Richardson Bay Bridge and Bay Trail. Idaho-based Pacific Companies is the applicant and property owner.
Updated zoning permits will allow progress on a proposed development at 640-690 Concar Drive in San Mateo. The permits approve the redevelopment of a largely vacant shopping center into new townhomes and apartments. This project was first reported on by SF YIMBY in March of 2025, but has since undergone several modifications. Brookfield Residential and The Pacific Companies are still responsible for the project’s development.
As per a recently released statement by BART, the long-awaited West Oakland BART development project is now taking initial steps towards construction. A portion of the West Oakland BART parking lot is closed this week for preliminary site soil testing and preparations. Site remediation, followed by building construction, is to begin later this year.
