Future Remains Uncertain for the Oakland A’s $12 Billion Howard Terminal Development

The Oakland City Council voted to approve a financial term sheet for Howard Terminal, a mixed-use development with housing, offices, and a new baseball stadium proposed by the Oakland A’s with an estimated $12 billion price tag. However, A’s president David Kaval has repeatedly signaled that yesterday’s approval could spell the end of the team’s future in Oakland because the term sheet approved is not what the team wanted. While Mayor Libby Schaaf is hopeful about the project’s future, Kaval was noncommittal about if the team would continue to negotiate. As it stands, the development is proceeding on thin ice.

Application Filed for Maudelle Building at 2001 Ashby Avenue, South Berkeley

The building application has been filed for review for the six-story affordable housing proposal at 2001 Ashby Avenue in South Berkeley. The project is expecting to add 87 new units to the East Bay housing market, with twelve units reserved for formerly unhoused residents. RCD Housing is responsible for the development, which will be named Maudelle Miller Shirek Community Building in honor of the late activist, vice-mayor, and eight-term member of the city council.

Permits Filed for 1666 7th Street, West Oakland

New building permits have been filed for a five-story mixed-use building at 1666 7th Street in West Oakland. The proposal, named 7th & Campbell, would create 79 residential units, all to be priced as affordable housing for extremely low-income households, earning between 0-30% of the Area Median Income. Oakland & the World Enterprises is the project sponsor, led by OAW’s CEO and former Black Panther Party chairwoman, Elaine Brown.
