The City of Palo Alto has reviewed an application for the entitlement of a 16-building townhome development at 200 Portage Avenue in the affluent city in Santa Clara County. The project would add a low-slung residential project eight minutes from the California Avenue Caltrain Station on a portion of the former Fry’s Electronics property. The Sobrato Organization is responsible for the application.

The project proposal includes building 110 apartments for teachers and staff members at Santa Clara and San Mateo County schools. The project is sponsored by the County of Santa Clara, Facebook, the City of Palo Alto, and participating school districts in Santa Clara County. Mercy Housing California and Abode Communities are managing the development.

The project proposal includes constructing twenty-four units in a three-story apartment building on two adjacent lots at 2239 and 2241 Wellesley Street. The new construction, Wellesley Housing, will replace the existing two single-family homes. The project proposes thirteen studios and eleven one-bedroom apartments in the building that will rise to a three-story height.
