Preliminary permits have been filed for a 20-story apartment complex at 2425 Durant Avenue in Southside, Berkeley. The potential 200-foot tower is entering a growing list of high-density projects that aims to reshape the skyline surrounding UC Berkeley with more housing to satiate the city’s outsized demand for housing. The project is being led by local architect Yes Duffy at Yes Duffy Architects.
A new residential project has been proposed for development at 490 West MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland. The project proposal includes the conversion of an existing hotel into permanent supportive housing. Bay Area Community Services Housing Corp (BACS) and Memar Properties Inc (MPI Homes) will develop and manage the property.

The mixed-use project will replace the fire-gutted former home of the dim sum restaurant Hong Kong Lounge II and two other buildings with several dozen apartments above parking.
New renderings have been shared for a residential infill at 104 Constitution Drive in Menlo Park, San Mateo County. The eight-story project first surfaced in June using the builder’s remedy to replace planned offices with over a hundred units of housing. Greystar is the project developer.
An affordable housing project has been approved for development at 6341 Shattuck Avenue in Bushrod, Oakland. The project proposal includes the construction of a new three-story building offering spaces for retail, residential, and parking uses. The plans will replace the existing Subway restaurant with homes and retail spaces. Mr. Navdeep Grewal, a Pleasanton-based individual, is listed as the project developer. SKL Architecture is responsible for the designs.
