Plans Approved for Conversion Project at 1433 12th Avenue in Oakland

The plans for a church to residential conversion were recently approved by the City of Oakland, taking a major step forward in a long-awaited affordable housing project. The 1433 12th Avenue site is already home to the 1887-built Brooklyn Presbyterian Church and Parish Hall, which is to be converted and incorporated into the project. Brooklyn Arms Apartments is listed as the project owner, with Strive Wealth Builders acting as a project sponsor.

Planning Documents Under Review for Remodel of 1220 F Street in Sacramento

Documents for a Site Plan and Design Review application are being considered for a warehouse remodel at 1220 F Street in Sacramento. The project plans to convert the existing masonry structure into a residential building with six dwelling units. Exact information on the project leaders is limited to, only that the building is publicly owned, and no particular developer is listed as currently responsible for the project.

Preliminary Application filed for Conversion of Church to Mixed-Use Building

Preliminarily applications were filed for the conversion of a Church property located at 92 7th Street in Oakland. The property would be converted into a mixed use building with both residential and commercial components as options for it’s usage. FARM49 is responsible for the project.

New Plans Filed For Alexandria Theater Redevelopment, San Francisco

New plans have been published alongside a project review meeting request for the adaptive reuse of the 102-year-old Alexandria Theater at 5400 Geary Boulevard in the Richmond District of San Francisco. The eight-story proposal looks to expand the long-closed theater to produce 83 units with ground-floor retail. TimeSpace Group is responsible for the application.

UC Berkeley Holds Grand Opening for Expanded Engineering Center

On April 21st, The University of California at Berkeley celebrated the grand opening of the cutting-edge and newly re-envisioned Grimes Engineering Center. The formal Bechtal engineering building served as a foundation for the expanded project, a 35,500 two-story glass pavilion with a three-level open forum at its center. Skidmore Owning and Merill are responsible for the design, with PGA Design responsible for landscaping.

New Funding Secured for Point Reyes Affordable Housing

Late last month, the Marin County Board of Supervisors voted to approve almost $9.5 million in funding for the refurbishment of 100 Commodore Webster Drive, the old Point Reyes Coast Guard Station, into 54 affordable housing units. The presentation brought by the Marin County Community Development Agency was supported by a number of speakers, including representatives of Eden Housing and CLAM, the developers for the project.

Small Office-to-Housing Conversion Proposed at 97 Boston Avenue, Burbank

Pre-application permits have been filed for an office-to-housing conversion at 97 Boston Avenue in Burbank, Santa Clara County. The developer, SALA Homes Realty & Development, aims to use the Builder’s Remedy to remodel their own offices into a 14-unit co-living complex. TDDG US, another occupant of the Boston Avenue location, is responsible for the application.

Appeal Rejected for Residential Conversion of 2395 Sacramento Street, Pacific Heights, San Francisco

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has allowed plans to proceed with the residential conversion of the Lane Medical Library at 2395 Sacramento Street in Pacific Heights, San Francisco. The board voted 10-1 to reject an appeal of the project that would have prompted further environmental review. March Capital Management is the project developer.

Westbank Considers Converting Bank of Italy Tower to Housing

Westbank and Urban Community have submitted new plans to convert Downtown San Jose’s iconic Bank of Italy tower into housing. The adaptive reuse of the office tower would create well over a hundred apartments across most of the 13-story building. The filing comes as the region struggles with record-high office vacancy rates.
