Historic Review Published for Davies Symphony Hall, San Francisco

The San Francisco Symphony is looking to reconstruct its existing concert hall with a new interior designed by Gehry Partners, one of the best modern architects of concert halls. New permits have been filed for the project, and the city has published a new historic resource review on the Davies Symphony Hall in the Civic Center. The review concludes that, given its young age, “the building is not yet eligible for listing” as a historic building in the national or state registers.

Significant San Francisco Symphony Hall Renovation Proposed

The San Francisco Symphony has started the entitlement process for renovations of the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall at 201 Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco’s Civic Center. While plans are preliminary, the Symphony has hired local Mark Cavagnero Associates and the world-renowned Gehry Partners to produce a dramatic reimagination inside and out. Construction is expected to cost at least $100 million.

Permits Filed for 642 5th Street by Sacramento Valley Station

Design review permits have been filed for a residential infill at 642 5th Street within the Sacramento Valley Station master plan in Downtown Sacramento. The proposed building will add 300 apartments to the 31-acre plan to create a mixed-use district next to the Amtrak Station. The address suggests the housing would replace a commercial office component on Lot 40.

Design Revealed for Central Valley High Speed Rail Stations

New illustrations have been revealed for the design template of four stations along California’s high speed rail in the Central Valley. Foster + Partners and ARUP are responsible for the project. The Central Valley line is part of the first phase of construction for the highly-anticipated infrastructure project to connect Los Angeles to San Francisco.

More State Funds for Sacramento Valley Station Redevelopment

More funds have been secured for the Sacramento Valley Station redevelopment plan, a vision to shape the city’s historic transit hub and seventh busiest Amtrak station in the country into a dense pedestrian-oriented destination. The State awarded $42 million to the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority to fund the new bus depot, part of the early phasing for construction.

Construction Tops Out for 1450 Owens Street in Mission Bay, San Francisco

Crews have topped out on the seven-story life sciences development at 1450 Owens Street in San Francisco’s Mission Bay. The steel frame stands 109 feet above street level, rising over I-280, while the site’s ground floor is visible to passing Caltrain riders. Truebeck is the general contractor, and Alexandria Real Estate Equities is the project developer.

Plans for Expansion of Synagogue at 2 Lake Street, San Francisco

New plans have been filed to expand and renovate the Synagogue at 2 Lake Street near Presidio Terrace, San Francisco. The project would address seismic concerns and expand the religious facility for the Congregation Emanu-El, whose distinctive dome overlooks the affluent gated neighborhood. The project is being sponsored by the Congregation of Emanu-El and Equity Community Builders.

Google’s Middlefield Park Approved by Mountain View City Council

Mountain View’s City Council has approved plans for Middlefield Park, a massive mixed-use development planned by Google Real Estate in the city’s East Whisman Precise Plan, Santa Clara County. With approval achieved, the project team expects to start construction by 2024. Google and Lendlease are jointly responsible for the development.

New renderings have been revealed for the two mixed-use towers and future office for Caltrain. The project will rise on the surface parking adjacent to San Jose’s Diridon Station. The public plaza and retail at the base would become a welcoming gateway for the future Google-led Downtown West masterplan. Perkins&Will is the project architect.

CEQA Notice for Mission Point Project in Santa Clara

A CEQA Notice has been published for the proposed Mission Point Project in the City of Santa Clara. The publication follows a community meeting held by the city with the developer and the community in late March. In its latest reduced iteration, plans for Mission Point are to build over three million square feet of offices, 1,800 new homes, retail, and a childcare facility. Kylli is the project sponsor, with Gensler responsible for the design.
