UC Berkeley Announces $2 Billion Space Center At NASA Ames Research Center

New plans have been revealed for a $2 billion research center run by UC Berkeley at the NASA Ames Center in Mountain View, Santa Clara County. The Berkeley Space Center, as it will be called, will reshape 36 acres on the sprawling Ames Research Center, providing a hub for future companies to collaborate with the school and NASA scientists & engineers to improve technology for aviation, space exploration, and how people live and work in space.

City Council Pushes Forward New Redwood City Life Sciences Campus

The Redwood City City Council has unanimously voted to start the environmental review process for Redwood LIFE: Evolve, the redevelopment of an 84-acre mixed-use site in Redwood City, San Mateo County. The decision is a step forward to create a life sciences campus alongside a hotel, amenity center, and 47 acres of green space and trails. Longfellow Real Estate Partners is responsible for the project.

Construction Underway for Foster-Designed Intuitive Offices along Kifer Road, Sunnyvale

Concrete and steel structures are rising between Kifer Road and the Caltrain tracks at 950 Kifer Road in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County. The development is set to become the new headquarters for Intuitive, a medical technology firm. London-based Foster + Partners is the project architect.

Excavation work is wrapping up for the first phase of the new Youtube Headquarters in San Bruno, San Mateo County. A corner facade mock-up has been delivered on-site, showing off the SHoP Architects-designed black integrated metal louver system that will wrap around the mass-timber framework in the new offices. San Francisco-based Ellis Partners is the development manager.

Longfellow Plans 84-Acre Office Park Modernization at Redwood City Shores

Longfellow Real Estate Partners has submitted the project application for an expansive 84-acre office park modernization project in Redwood City, San Mateo County. The project, named Redwood LIFE: Evolve, will reshape the 1990s-era complex with taller office buildings, minimal surface parking, and a heavy emphasis on landscaping and community amenities. HOK is responsible for the design.

Recently adjusted plans have been filed for the massive office proposal at 725 Harrison Street in SoMa, San Francisco. The base proposal was already approved in 2019, and the new modifications slightly expand the office and industrial components. Boston Properties is responsible for the application.

Development plans are moving forward for Sequoia Station, a six-structure mixed-use proposal to reshape the downtown of San Mateo County’s third-largest city. The Los Angeles-based private real estate company, Lowe, has spent $73 million acquiring the second half of the block around 1057 El Camino Real in Redwood City. The firm looks to construct three million square feet of housing and offices, parking, and public open space.

The project proposal includes developing a strip mall into a transit village featuring new homes, commercial space, and public open space. Lowe and Eden Housing is the project applicant and developer. Current property owners Safeway and Regency Centers Corporation are also stakeholders in the project. Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, Inc (HOK) is managing the design concept and construction.

The San Bruno City Council has approved plans for Google to expand YouTube’s headquarters with over two million square feet of office space, potential housing, shops, and a hotel as part of the Bayhill Specific Plan. The project will extend across five separate phases. Phase one starts with SHoP Architects-designed offices at 1300 Bayhill Drive and 1350 Grundy Lane, San Bruno, San Mateo County. The nearly half a million square foot phase. HLW is the architect of record.
