City Requests $47 Million To Pay Construction Loan for Hotel Diva Conversion

The City’s Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing and the Episcopal Community Services have submitted a request to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for a $47.38 million permanent loan related to the conversion of Hotel Diva at 440 Geary Street into permanent supportive housing. The financing will pay off the construction loan from the San Francisco Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF). Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) with co-applicant Episcopal Community Services (ECS) as owner and service provider.

Amended plans will be reviewed for 98 Franklin Street during the San Francisco Planning Commission Hearing this Thursday. The alterations were first revealed in mid-November with an additional floor, higher rooftop, and increased residential capacity from 345 to 385 units in The Hub. Affordable housing needs have also been shifted offsite to Parcel K in Hayes Valley and 600 Van Ness Avenue. Related and the French American International School are jointly responsible for the project.

The project represents phase two of the Academic Village redevelopment of the city block. The project is a joint venture with the UCSF College of the Law San Francisco and Greystar. Once complete, it will provide dorms, classrooms, and a variety of facilities by the summer of 2023.
