For the last twelve days of the year, SF YIMBY will look back on each month and share the biggest stories we covered. The month of May started slowly, with illustrations for the High-Speed Rail project, but ended with substantial construction activity documented across the Bay Area, including a rising Life Sciences campus by the San Bruno BART Station. The builder’s remedy was floated for a 350-unit apartment complex in Palo Alto, and YIMBY revealed plans for new housing at the base of Sutro Tower.
Design Revealed For Central Valley High-Speed Rail Stations
May 1st: New illustrations have been revealed for the design template of four stations along California’s high speed rail in the Central Valley. Foster + Partners and ARUP are responsible for the project. The Central Valley line is part of the first phase of construction for the highly-anticipated infrastructure project to connect Los Angeles to San Francisco.
Builder’s Remedy Plan For Housing At 3997 Fabian Way, Palo Alto
May 11th: New permits have been filed to entitle the eight-story residential development plans for 350 homes at 3997 Fabian Way in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County. The filing uses the Builder’s Remedy provision of the state’s Housing Accountability Act to increase residential capacity from the 2.15-acre site. Juno Realty Partners is the developer.
Plans For 6115 Potrero Avenue In El Cerrito, Contra Costa County
May 17th: Plans are underway for a five-story residential infill at 6115 Potrero Avenue in El Cerrito, Contra Costa County. The development will replace a single-story commercial structure on a narrow parcel with 63 homes above retail, with groundbreaking expected as early as this year. Potrero Partners LLC, led by Coldwell Banker realtor Kim Marienthal, is listed as the project sponsor.
First Structure Rising At Southline, South San Francisco
May 18th: Images from a YIMBY reader show most of the first building’s steel framework has been erected at Southline, a massive life sciences development in South San Francisco, San Mateo County. The new purpose-built laboratory is the first of eleven structures that will occupy the 28.5-acre master plan. The first phase of construction has seen Beacon Capital Partners join Lane Partners and Goldman Sachs in the ownership group.
Construction Underway For 2440 Shattuck Avenue In Downtown Berkeley
May 23rd: Recent photos show construction has reached the fifth floor for 2440 Shattuck Avenue, an eight-story infill in Downtown Berkeley, Alameda County. The project is progressing quickly toward opening next year with 40 homes above retail. The Austin Group is the project developer.
Topping Out For New Eikon Offices In Millbrae, San Mateo County
May 25th: Yesterday afternoon marked the official topping out of the BART-adjacent Millbrae Office and Life Sciences Campus in Millbrae, San Mateo County. Truebeck Construction has rapidly transformed the flat plot of land with a six-story steel structure in less than a year for the largest of four buildings for the Life Sciences campus in less than a year. Alexandria Real Estate Equities is the project developer. Eikon Therapeutics will be the anchor tenant.
Construction Starts On Affordable Housing In Hunters Point, San Francisco
May 26th: Construction has officially started for the new affordable housing on Hunters Point Shipyards’ Blocks 52 and 54 in San Francisco. The bayside project will bring 112 multi-family units at two sites with funding from the Office of Community Infrastructure and Investment. Jonathan Rose Companies and Bayview Senior Services are jointly responsible for the project as co-developers.
18-Story Marriott Hotel Opens In Downtown Oakland
May 30th: Hawkins Way Capital has announced the official opening of their dual-brand hotel at 1431 Jefferson Street in Downtown Oakland, Alameda County. The 18-story building will split its 276 hotels between the AC Hotel and Residence Inn brands, both owned by Marriott.
Renderings Revealed For Mixed-Income Housing On Twin Peaks, San Francisco
May 31st: Renderings have been published for affordable teacher housing and townhome duplexes at 402 Dellbrook Avenue, near the base of Sutro Tower in Twin Peaks, San Francisco. The project would create around 76 units, of which 40 will be affordable housing. Midtown Lands LLC, owned by James Keith, is the property owner and developer.
