BIG-Designed Google Caribbean Offices Facade Installed in Sunnyvale

Construction is wrapping up with facade installation nearly complete for Google Caribbean, the waterfront five-story buildings along West Caribbean Drive in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County. The zigzagging offices will bring a combined one million square feet of new office space for Google next year. The update comes as Google’s parent company, Alphabet, postponed construction of Downtown West in San Jose in April and put 1.4 million square feet of offices up for sublease last month. Bjarke Ingels Group is the project architect.

Apple has filed plans for a new office at 19191 Vallco Parkway in Cupertino, Santa Clara County. The project will reshape a sprawling nearly eight acres with twice as much office space, a six-level garage, and three acres of surface parking. City Council is scheduled to review plans today.

The transit-adjacent project is expected to create 543 homes by the South San Francisco Caltrain Station while expanding the burgeoning urban growth of the downtown area further south. Essex Property Trust is the project developer.

SRI is a non-profit scientific research institute best known for its work in developing Siri, the voice assistant on the iPhone. Lane Partners is sponsoring the project.

The meeting comes after the publication of the initial study for the residential infill. The 474-unit project is a joint development with Nabr, a new direct-to-consumer housing startup, and the established local developers at Urban Community.

Energy Hub Tower Proposal for Downtown San Jose Pushes Forward, Council Vote Expected Next Month

The amended Draft Environmental Impact Report has been published for the 21-story mixed-use proposal at 35 South Second Street in Downtown San Jose. The project, dubbed the Energy Hub Tower, is scheduled for review by the Planning Commission next week, and the city council is expected to consider final approval for the plans in mid-December. If approved, it will bring the development team, Westbank and Urban Community, closer to adding the Bjarke Ingels Group-designed tower to fruition.

The Orchard Residences project will create hundreds of new homes with some retail and on-site parking. Westbank is the project applicant.
