Housing Law Costs San Jose Thousands of Homes From Flea Market Proposal

The Builder’s Remedy was expected to boost housing construction across the state. However, it’s causing San Jose’s pipeline to shrink. The Bumb Family has withdrawn their 2021-proposed plan for the South District development, swapping the proposed offices and 3,450 units with a 940-unit alternative, representing a loss of 2,560 units. Since San Jose did not submit a compliant housing element, there is little for the city to do.

Meeting Tonight For Berkeley Southside Rezoning

Berkeley’s growing neighborhood could soon rise higher. The Berkeley City Council is scheduled to vote today to upzone Southside, a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood dominated by college students and small businesses on the south side of the UC Berkeley Campus. If approved, the rezoning would increase the area’s maximum housing capacity up by over 2,500 dwellings.

Construction Starts for Housing in Potrero Power Station

Construction officially started yesterday morning on the first apartment complex in the ambitious Potrero Power Station masterplan on San Francisco’s formerly industrial waterfront. The first structure to rise will be an affordable workforce housing complex named the Sophie Maxwell Building, with expectations of over seven hundred units to rise with it during the first phase of development. Associate Capital is the project developer.

Brookfield Provides Pathway to Approval for Concord Naval Weapons Station

New details have been released for one of the largest projects in the region, a several-thousand-unit mixed-housing expansion across the former Concord Naval Weapons Station in Concord, the largest city in Contra Costa County. Details must be released, but the project is expected to create over ten thousand dwelling units over the 2,350-acre property.

Meeting Thursday For Increased Housing of Stonestown Galleria, San Francisco

San Francisco Planning Commission is scheduled to review plans to increase the residential capacity of the Stonestown Galleria master plan. The new plan will create nearly 3,500 residences and reduce non-retail sales and service spaces. To add more housing, the plans for a hotel have been removed. Brookfield Properties is the developer, and the meeting is scheduled for this Thursday.

Facade Installation Underway Across Cityline Sunnyvale Block 3

Just two years after the Macy’s shopping mall was demolished in the center of Downtown Sunnyvale, construction has moved fast for phase two. A recent site visit by YIMBY has shown two seven-story offices and the twelve-story apartment complex have topped out, with facade installation underway. Hunter Properties and Sares Regis Group are jointly responsible for the project, part of the 36-acre Cityline Sunnyvale master plan.

Demolition Permits for SMUD 59th Street Redevelopment, Sacramento

Demolition permits have been requested for the vacant Sacramento Municipal Utility District site along 59th Street in East Sacramento. Following demolition and soil remediation, the nearly twenty-acre property is expected to be redeveloped with nearly nine hundred homes, an updated light-rail station, and public open space. BlackPine and SKK are jointly responsible for the development.

Construction Update for Mid-Rise Projects in Tasman East, Santa Clara

While Related has topped out for the 23-story apartment tower at 2300 Calle De Luna, work is moving forward on several other mid-rise projects in Santa Clara’s Tasman East Specific Plan. The six structures will rise between six to eight floors high, creating over a thousand and five hundred units, shops, and new open space.

Sunnyvale City Council Approves Moffett Park Specific Plan

Plans have been approved for Moffett Park Specific Plan, a 1,270-acre industrial neighborhood set to become a new mixed-use district in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County. The rezoning of the waterfront area would result in around 20,000 homes and over ten million square feet of new commercial space with improvements to transit, walkability, and cycling.

Meeting Today For Chevron Park Redevelopment in San Ramon

The San Ramon Planning Department is scheduled to review plans to redevelop the former Chevron headquarters at 6001 Bollinger Canyon Road with a mixed-use neighborhood in San Ramon, Contra Costa County. The public study session will reshape the 92-acre campus, though details are preliminary. Sunset Development, the owner of Bishop Ranch, is responsible for the application.
