Parcel A Breaks Ground at El Cerrito BART Transit Oriented Development

Last week, ground broke at the El Cerrito BART Station, beginning the first phase of construction for a sweeping 743-unit development to occupy the existing surface parking lot. Initial concepts for the project were reported on by SF YIMBY in 2020, with final approvals by the El Cerrito City Council coming through in May 2025. In that time, Holliday Development, Satellite Affordable Housing Associates, and Related California have emerged as project developers, sponsoring a combination of affordable and market-rate units on the site.

Permits Filed for 1700 Sacramento Street’s Transit Oriented Project at North Berkeley BART

Permits have been filed for the construction of new housing located at 1700 Sacramento Street in Berkeley. The site is currently part of the North Berkeley BART station parking, at the north-east corner. If the project successfully moves forward, it will mark the first construction phase for the North Berkeley BART redevelopment plan.

Affordable Housing Approved For 1223 33rd Avenue in Fruitvale, Oakland

Plans have been approved for a five-story affordable senior housing complex at 1223 33rd Avenue in Fruitvale, Oakland. The project will add over five dozen apartments across from the Fruitvale BART Station and Plaza. Unity Council and Self-Help Ventures are joint developers.

Modified plans have been filed for the supportive housing project within the North Berkeley BART Station redevelopment plan. The application utilizes Assembly Bill 2011 to streamline the approval process for the amended iteration, which has increased the overall scale and average size of the 85 units. Insight Housing is responsible for the application.

Adeline Alliance Team Selected For Ashby BART Station Redevelopment, Berkeley

Adeline Alliance Team has been selected to redevelop the Ashby BART Station in the south of Berkeley, Alameda County. The successful vision proposes a densely packed mixed-use hub that ties together community needs and residential services below hundreds of apartments. The project is currently in its preliminary stages as the team and city enter an exclusive negotiation agreement.

Ribbon Cutting for Affordable Housing at 2201 Brush Street, Oakland

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony has been held for the affordable housing project at 2201 Brush Street in West Oakland, Alameda County. The project, dubbed the Ms. Margaret Gordon West Port, is adding 59 units to the residential neighborhood close to the heart of the city. East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation is responsible for the development.

The development looks to add 170 units on the vacant lot close to the Oakland Ballers stadium and Interstate 580. MidPen Housing is the project applicant, filing in partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

Groundbreaking for BUSD Workforce Housing at 1701 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley

Construction has officially started for the six-story affordable housing complex at 1701 San Pablo Avenue in Northwest Berkeley, Alameda County. The groundbreaking ceremony was held by the Berkeley Unified School District in partnership with the non-profit developers Abode Communities and Satellite Affordable Housing Associates. Once complete, the project will offer over a hundred units for educators in the city.

City Council Supports Affordable Housing Development at El Cerrito BART Station

The El Cerrito City Council has started to support the next phase of affordable housing as part of the El Cerrito BART Station redevelopment in Contra Costa County. With construction expected to begin later this year on the first phase, the council provided a $350,000 loan while city staff apply for over $40 million in state funding for the next portion of below-market-rate units. Holliday Development, Satellite Affordable Housing Associates, and Related California are jointly responsible for the 743-unit master plan on behalf of the property owner, BART.

Affordable Housing Opens at 22447 Ruby Street, Castro Valley

New affordable housing opened last week at 22447 Ruby Street in Castro Valley, Alameda County. The complex, named Crescent Grove, has brought 72 units to a residential neighborhood. Eden Housing, the project developer, held the official grand opening ceremony late last week.
