It has only been two weeks since plans were first announced for the region’s potential second-tallest residential tower, and a flurry of permit activity has already been submitted to the city’s Planning Department. The 72-story proposal for 530 Howard Street is expected to rise 844 feet tall, among the tallest in the country, and could become the third or fourth tallest skyscraper in San Francisco. Bayhill Ventures, the project developer, has also submitted a request for new building permits.
San Francisco Planning Commission is scheduled to review plans to increase the residential capacity of the Stonestown Galleria master plan. The new plan will create nearly 3,500 residences and reduce non-retail sales and service spaces. To add more housing, the plans for a hotel have been removed. Brookfield Properties is the developer, and the meeting is scheduled for this Thursday.
New permit activity has been filed for the 30-story apartment tower dubbed Orchard Residential in Downtown San Jose, Santa Clara County. The plan is part of the multi-tower redevelopment master plan for San Jose by the Canadian developer Westbank in partnership with the local real estate firm Urban Community.
Studio Gang has been selected to design the newest addition to the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, the Stanford Sustainability Commons next to Palo Alto, Santa Clara County. The firm is tasked with creating the interdisciplinary core for the school to research and tackle issues of climate change and sustainability across the world.
Spear Street Capital has announced the official topping out of 300 Kansas Street in San Francisco. The unique six-story purpose-built workspace straddles the Design District and Potrero Hill neighborhoods, offering a zero-carbon R&D and advanced manufacturing facility for prospective tenants, with commanding views of San Francisco’s central business district. Webcor, the general contractor, is expected to finish the project this Summer.
